  Short Bio:
Diego received a BSc in Biology, and a MSc in Biotechnology from the University of Alicante, Spain. After that, decided to do a PhD in plant sciences, and joined the lab of Doctors Ricardo Flores and J. Antonio Daròs at the IBMCP in Valencia, a research institute part of the Spanish research council -CSIC-. There he studied how the viroids (circular, single-stranded pathogenic RNAs with ribozymatic activity) use the enzymatic machinery from the host that they infect to complete their replication cycle. Then he moved to the University of Rochester as a postdoc in the lab of Dr. Xin Bi, where he worked with histone lysine demethylases, trying to elucidate how they affect the establishment of heterochromatin in yeast. After spending two winters in Rochester NY, Diego decided that good science does not need to be associated with cold places, so he moved to Cyprus to take a postdoc position at Dr. Kirmizis lab. Here, he is working on discovering genes that are implicated in the regulation of histone arginine methylation. The time Diego is not in the lab, he enjoys driving around Cyprus with his old convertible car (top down!), discovering nice beaches, beautiful sceneries and the best food the island has to offer.
